About Derek Lam
Derek Lam graduated from the Parsons School of Design in 1990 and began his fashion career working for as an assistant to Michael Kors (not a bad start!). After four years he moved to Hong Kong but decided to return to New York to accept the postion of VP of Design for the Kors line. Lam launched his own compnay in 2002 with his business partner Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann and debuted his first collection at the September 2003 New York Fashion Week.

Why is Lam so popular?

Lam's line is most noted for his feminine fabrics combined with crisp silhouettes. Celeb clients such as Liv Taylor and Gwyneth Paltrow sport their favorite pieces all over town. Of his line, Lam said, "It really touches on a femininity that is grown up and very self-aware. It is competent, not an ingénue, intelligent but not overly intellectual, more emotional. The collection has a modern point of view, but always looks to the past.”

I love, LOVE, his leather riding pants! I would pair is with something soft and sweet, like a feminine cashmere sweater from J. Crew and a beautiful crystal bib necklace. It would make a fun contrast between girlie and edgy!

My imagination is running a muck ~ I would so wear the beige cap. A truly versatile statement piece that you can wear out to dinner or to your child's soccer game. I am traveling home in the next two weeks & would add a pair of slim cut black velvet corduroy jeans, a pair of metallic gold long leather gloves, and a camel cashmere turtleneck. Complete the look with a pair of black patent leather boots (Tory Burch perhaps?)& a Hermes scarf. A perfect companion to effortless, comfortable, traveling attire. I hate to look 'fugly' when I travel, don't you?! Thanks for the fun Paloma xx

Saturday morning - my day. Today I'm gonna do it.

I pull my bedhead hair into a low, messy bun and assemble the outfit I'll pair with my Derek Lam Lace Up Booties: black skinny jeans, a floaty silk trapeze top in olive green, and my favorite slouchy gray sweater. Et voila - I feel like the best version of myself.

Now, off to the coffee shop to craft some cover letters and resumes, and to hope I look as good on the page as I do in real life...

DL's items are stunning! My fave piece is the leather riding pants. Reasons:
1. I want a pair of leather leggings/pants (not pleather).
2. These look exceptional and well made.
3. Despite the fact that $100 wouldn't pay for them (lol), I love them anyways!

love love love the Drape Neck Blouse with long sleeves. It would be so divine with aubergine tight cords, tucked into riding boots. So ladylike but groovy!

Terrific giveaway Paloma!

I have TWO faves (and yes, both are equally my fave!)

THe first is the Devon Lace-up bootie---Just today I did a post on how obsessed I am with menswear inspired lace-up shoes (http://tinyurl.com/yl8yhfd), and these are a spot-on example of how amazing the trend is! The heel gives them such a sexy edge.

The second is the strapless dress in Oxblood. I have to go to a wedding in Hong Kong over chinese new year, and I have NO idea what I'm going to wear, but that dress would be perfect! it's the ideal blend of glamour and good taste, and what's more, red is the color of good fortune in the Chinese tradition, so it's just right to wear to my friend's chinese wedding!

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Black Felt Jacket with detachable collar for sure. Classy yet edgy. An investment piece with the extra collar! Pair it with camel skinny cords and grapewine tory burch flats for a day of outdoor shopping or pop up that collar add some pink a touch of gold jewelry and Banana Rep pencil skirt and you are ready for anything!

This morning I looked outside I saw the fog rolling in and instead of being depressed i knew that I had the perfect ensemble that would brighten my day. Dark skinny jeans tucked into my Tory Burch Jaydan boots with my comfiest white tee are made even chicer with my Derek lam Cape thrown over them. Tousled locks with a little cap and one big amethyst cocktail ring make me feel ready to take on the day.

i love the Kashmira clutch. So very cool and yet works for both day and night. Of course, I cannot afford any of these luxurious items from the ever so talented Lam but I'll continue to swoon at his designs and hope I win this prize!!

having to choose just one is sooo hard! I've settled on the Crew Neck Tunic Dress. So much bang for the buck! I'd wear it to work with a belted cardigan, hose, and tall boots, then rock out at night with strappy heels, super sparkly earrings, and tall hair. Rock star!!

I like the strapless dress with the sweetheart neckline. It's almost a garnet color, but I thought the fact that the color is actually named "oxblood" makes a bold statement. I think the design is impeccable. Dresses that are tight around the ribs and then billow out often leave the hips looking enormous. The billowing of the fabric is flattering and it adds to the feel of the dress. The ruffled neckline is so feminine and I like this dress so much because I think I would feel beautiful given the chance to wear it.
If I ever had that chance the first place I can think of wanting to wear it is on my trip to Italy in a few weeks. I'd love to wear it and prance around Rome. I'd pair the dress with a pair of diamond stud earrings and some gold bangle bracelets. I think a leather jacket would be awesome or a long boyfriend blazer in black that hits just past the hip to play up the masculinity. I'd keep the shoe similar to what it is to still feel like i could show some leg.

Derek Lam's Calita hobo is my absolute favorite. A few years ago I spied a Derek Lam bag in blueprint and I've been completely smitten with his handbags ever since. Classic but with an edge, they'd elevate any outfit. If I owned that bag, I'd wear it anywhere and everywhere.

Darling, this is perhaps the best giveaway I've seen. Ever! Thank you so much.

I love the Lam tunic dress + the anorak. I'd pair the two together for a date night - a nice sexy piece with a casual twist. with tights and ankle boots and a big scarf to guard against the seattle cold would be perfect.

Fingers crossed that I win!

I am a follower, and my favorite item is the Derek Lam Naomi Ankle Wrap Sandals.

These authentic Italian-made beauties are like the classic masterpieces that their country is known for: Beautiful lines and artistry criss-cross in buttery suede ribbons over your feet. They would be the statement piece to any outfit: jeans and an oversized sweater by day, sexy minidress by night--even a toga if you want to really give homage to the shoe's heritage (come on, who doesn't love a good costume party?).

But, truly, you couldn't go wrong with these heels!

the Riding Pants with Suede Inserts. I would wear them with a red camel coat and tall black boots and ride out to the hunt with my dashing English paramour and sip aperitifs on the verandah of his manor house.

ok, really i would probably wear them with a slouchy black t-shirt & my frye moto boots...but a gal can dream, can't she?

The cape! It's my fav because it's so elegant, yet edgy...a truly unique piece so I can honestly say I have nothing like it in my closet. The double collar with the detachable shawl is SO smart and pretty. Never heard of cashgora, but blended with cashmere and angora, I bet it's amazingly soft and comfy!

I'd pair it with the Drape Neck Sleeveless Blouse and the Leather Riding Pants. It would also be perfect over a black cocktail dress or just a t-shirt and jeans. A chunky necklace would look so great with the neckline too!

Its quite hard to choose with those great shoes but i think that I would have to choose the crew neck dress. I'm pregnant and I think the knit would allow the dress to work even with my new shape:)
